Dr. Robert P. Smilanich’s professional areas of focus are in both teaching and applying the latest techniques of surgical intervention to treat disorders of the arterial and venous circulation.

Dr. Smilanich is skilled in such areas as thoracic endografting, endovascular procedures, balloon angioplasty, and aortic and peripheral vascular stent or graft placement. Dr. Smilanich is fellowship-trained and board certified in general and vascular surgery. In addition, Dr. Smilanich performs many administrative duties at the Utah Vascular Center in Provo. He is currently involved in establishing a vascular database and expanding the vascular surgical access in Utah County and other currently underserved referring areas of Utah.

Dr. Smilanich graduated from medical school at George Washington University in Washington D.C. He continued his studies there to complete an internship and residency in general surgery. He then concluded a fellowship in vascular surgery at Penn State University. Dr. Smilanich served as a major in the United States Air Force, working as chief of the vascular surgery service at the University of Texas Health Science Center before becoming director of the Utah Vascular Center.
